OK, so you have prepared everything, you want to make your own personal website or you want to have a website to promote your business or you are just curious about it. The first question is: where to start?
The first two things that you need to prepare are: a URL (the address of your website) and a host ( a webserver that you can have your website files on it). Lets start by finding a domain name.
Domain name
Domain name is the address of your website, e. g. http://www.easywebsiter.com. The “.com” suffix does not have a very special meaning!! It used to show that the website is a COMmercial one, but nowadays there are tons of non-commercial “.com” websites. Other than that, you can have websites with various suffixes like: “.edu” (educational), “.biz” (business), “.org” (organization), … . Here, you can see the complete list of top-level domains. There are many domain name registrar websites that you can go to.
What you need to know for registering a domain name
So you have chosen your website name and suffix and the next thing to is to register it. Where you should go? There are different websites that you can use. A funny thing here is that different domain suffixes have different prices which means the fee you should pay for registering example.com is not the same as example.net! Another thing that you should know is that the name of the registrar will appear in the WHOIS directory (basically a database which stores the names of registered users of internet resources) and everyone can search it. You want to do a little bit of a search yourself?! Go ahead! You should pay some extra cash to do private registering if you want to stay anonymous.
Ok, don’t worry we are close to go to action! The last point: most of good addresses are already gone!! You might need to try different names to find an available one.
Now you know the basic things. I will talk about prices and websites you can use in the next post.
